LEGEND

The Legend/Layer List button toggles between the map legend and the layer list.  The default is the Layer List, which is shown in the upper right-hand corner of the above screenshot.  The Layer List allows you to select which map layers are visible at any given time.  It also allows you to select the active layer, which is required for feature selection and identification.  Only one layer can be active at any given time.  When making any modifications to the Layer List, click the Refresh Map button to draw the updated map.

OV Map

The Overview Map On/Off button allows you to toggle the overview map.  The default is to display the overview map.  This map shows you the portion of the map you are currently viewing relative to the full extent of the map.  It also allows you to quickly move around the map by clicking areas inside the overview map window.

Zoom

The Zoom In/Zoom Out buttons allow you to change the map extent.  Zoom to Full Extent allows you to see the full extent of the map.  Zoom to Active Layer to see the extent of the currently active layer (which is selected in the Layer List).   Zoom to Previous Extent returns you to your previous zoom level.

Pan

The Pan buttons allow you to pan the map a specified direction.

Identify

The Identify button allows you to identify attributes of a feature.  To use it, first make active the layer that contains the feature you want to identify.  (For example, if you want to identify a parcel, you need to make the Parcel layer active.)  Click the Identify button, then click on the feature you want to identify.  The attributes of the feature will appear in the bottom frame.  If there are scrollbars in this window, you may need to use them to see the desired information.

Measure

The Measure button allows you to measure distances on the map.  To use it, first click the Measure button.  Then click your starting point on the map.  Move the mouse pointer to the endpoint and click the mouse button again.  This will show you the distance on the map in whatever units you have selected (see Set Units).

Query

The Query Builder queries features based on their attribute values. Numeric or text are acceptable search strings. You must use single quotes around values that are text strings.

Search

The Search Tool is enabled on your viewer if the MapService has been created with stored queries. Once a stored query has been created, the Search tool allows the user to type only a value to search for, rather than a full query expression.

Clear

The Clear Selection button clears the currently selected features and any output from the Measure tool.

Address

The Locate Address button allows you to locate an address or an intersection on the map.  To use it, click the Locate Address button.  Type in the name of the address (street number and name, i.e. 45 E Broad) or the two street names for intersection location (i.e. E Spring in line 1 and Willow Ave in line 2), then click the Locate button.  The results of your search will appear in order of relevancy in the bottom frame.  Click the underlined number of the match to zoom in on the location.

Print

The Print button allows you to generate a full-page map in another browser window suitable for printing.  To use it, click the Print button.  A new browser window will appear with the full-page map inside.  Then, from the new browser window, click File -> Print.
